Vivaro Media taps Appear for live encoding of 2023 Pan American Games

Media technology company Appear has been selected by media solutions provider Vivaro Media to support its live contribution of the upcoming 2023 Pan American Games, scheduled to take place in Chile from October 20 to November 5.

Vivaro Media has deployed Appear’s X Platform to encode 10 live HD channels during the competition. The company needed to deploy the Appear X10 with software-defined HEVC compression to deliver 10 live HD channels from the games in Santiago. Appear said this allowed Vivaro Media to minimise energy consumption and reduce shipping costs and power usage, without compromise on quality or latency.

The X platform enables broadcasters and service providers to deliver live contribution, enabling next-generation remote production and distribution workflows. It blends industry standards such as HEVC/AVC, ST-2110, JPEG XS, Zixi, and high-capacity SRT, with an equally broad array of processing, Network Address Translation (NAT), and firewall functions. It includes Appear’s ECx110 modules for HEVC ultra-low latency encoding and decoding. According to Appear, it is the only compression solution on the market to offer ultra-low latency, HD, and UHD compression with SDI and ST-2110 uncompressed I/O, at scale and with 1RU or 2RU short-depth chassis options.

The tech outfit highlighted the platform enabled Vivaro Media to encode its live feeds while rapidly scaling to meet increased number of camera feeds.
