AMC Networks reveals pricing for ad-supported version of AMC+
AMC Networks has unveiled pricing for the ad-supported version of its AMC+ streaming service.
The new tier, confirmed in April, will cost $4.99 per month versus a with-ads version that costs $8.99.
It will provide access to AMC programming, from Better Call Saul to The Walking Dead franchise, plus access to Shudder, Sundance Now and IFC Films Unlimited.
The service will also allow customers to watch linear feeds of AMC, IFC, BBC America and Sundance TV.
AMC is joining most other streamers in rolling out an ad-supported tier. Its decision in April came just weeks after the company announced plans to cut its content spending by around 20% this year, down to $1.1bn from $1.35bn in 2022.
The company, which operates flagship AMC Network and Sundance TV, as well as platforms AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder, Sundance Now, ALLBLK and HIDIVE, has struggled to make the move into streaming and is facing pressure from stalling subscriber growth.
Kim Kelleher, chief commercial officer of AMC Networks, said the move “gives consumers more flexibility while bringing ads to the only piece of our distribution ecosystem that wasn’t already ad-supported.”
