Latin America OTT revenue to reach $7bn
OTT TV episode and film revenues for 19 Latin American countries is forecasted to rise by $7 billion from 2023, reaching $17 billion by 2029, according to Digital TV Research.
The media research outfit predicts additional revenues across Latin America such as SVOD will provide $2.8 billion and AVOD $3.5 billion. Findings highlighted that SVOD will remain the region’s largest OTT revenue source; contributing $10.1 billion of revenue by 2029.
According to Digital TV Research’s date, the US OTT market will grow at a less faster rate compared to Latin America, with SVOD revenues only to rise by $2bn by 2029.
OTT TV and film revenue in the US will reach $82bn in 2029, up from $74bn in 2023, according the report. However, SVOD revenues are predicted to only rise to $54.6bn, from the current $52.5bn, with little growth expected from 2025 onwards.
Digital TV Research noted the one significant local player missing from the chart is Brazil’s Globoplay which will have a boost of revenue of $1.6 billion by 2029, with $0.6 billion from SVOD and $1.0 billion from AVOD.
Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “We expect that Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+ and HBO Max will all start hybrid AVOD-SVOD tiers in the short term – one for Spanish-speaking Latin America and another for Brazil. These four platforms will command more than half the region’s OTT revenues by 2029. We estimate that these four platforms will collectively generate $1.5 billion in AVOD revenues by 2029.”
