FTTH becomes ever more dominant in Spanish broadband
Fibre-to-the-home lines in Spain passed the milestone of 14.3 million homes in June, while overall fixed broadband lines reached 17 million, according to the latest statistics published by markets regulator the CNMC.
According to the watchdog, fixed broadband lines grew by 31481 in June to reach 17.042 million, up from 16.329 million a year ago.
FTTH lines reached 14.3 million, including 5.191 million operated by leading provider Movistar (Telefónica). The total for FTTH was up 79,570 during the month and up 1.1 million year-on-year. Movistar has a 36.3% share of the market, and a 34.19% share of the overall fixed broadband market.
HFC cable’s share continued to decline slowly. HFC lines numbered 1.575 million at the end of June, down from 1.598 million for the prior month.
Among other providers, Orange came second to Movistar with a 23.23% share of the fixed broadband market, followed by Vodafone (including the former Ono cable network) with a 17.19% share and MásMóvil (including cable operator Euskaltel Group) with an 18.9% share.
Mobile broadband lines meanwhile grew 2.2% year-on-year to reach 50.7 million.
