Sweden’s new TV4 Play streamer launches today
Telia’s reorganization of its struggling media arm takes a major step today with the launch of new combined streaming service TV4 Play.
Telia said that the new TV4 play will continue to offer independent journalism, entertainment and drama but will also have a larger selection of films and series.
In addition, coverage of SHL hockey, UEFA Champions League football and all other sports are now moving to TV4 Play.
Drama and comedy series will premiere for users with premium offering Plus a week or so before they are broadcast on the TV4 channel.
The launch kicks off with the season premiere of the ninth season of drama Maria Wern. Coming attractions include a new season of Solsidan and Ture Sventon will return with a second season.
Two new original series will be added during the autumn: Ondskan and Estonia. For lovers of crime drama Beck, there will be a new film, the 49th in the series, around Christmas.
Sports content on the service include next weekend’s World Athletics Championships.
The sports packages on TV4 Play are the same as the sports packages previously available on C More, the pay brand retired by Telia to make space for TV4 Play. During the autumn, the SHL, Hockeyallsvenskan , UEFA Champions League , La Liga and Serie A will be available.
TV4 Play will also include 24-hour news with Nyhetsmorgon , Efter fem and TV4 Nyheterna.
“This is a historic and important day for TV4. TV4 Play is the platform where we will build TV4’s future. TV4 Play as users know it, with news and entertainment, is always open and free. At the same time, as from today, we also offer the option to buy more content, with or without advertising. With the new TV4 Play, we now place all of Sweden on one and the same service where all users can find all our content,” said Mathias Berg, CEO of TV4.
