Hallmark Media president and CEO Lucas to step down
Hallmark Media president & CEO Wonya Lucas is to step down at the end of 2023, after three years in the role.
Lucas, who will remain on the board, took over from Bill Abbott after he exited in 2020 following the controversial handling of an advert that featured a same-sex couple kissing.
Since taking on her remit, Lucas has been widely credited with improved diversity and inclusivity on Hallmark programming. She has also struck deals with Peacock, YouTube and Hulu, as well as launching FAST channels.
Hallmark Companies CEO Mike Perry – who also oversees Hallmark Global and Crayola, which unveiled its first move into programming recently – will work with the team ahead of Lucas’s exit.
Lucas said: “My passion for the Hallmark brand has grown in deeply rewarding ways and will remain paramount as I continue to help guide Hallmark Media’s future in a more strategically focused capacity.”
Perry added: “Wonya is a multi-faceted industry veteran, passionate brand builder, and consummate strategic leader.
“I’m grateful for the important work she has done to bring the expansive foundation of the iconic Hallmark brand to life and am fortunate that her insights will continue to positively impact the future of the business.”
Following Abbott’s exit, he launched GAC Family, which has inked deal with Hallmark stars.
