Movistar Plus+ to relaunch with OTT streaming option for non-Telefónica customers

Telefónica is to relaunch its TV service Movistar Plus+ on August 1 with an offering that will be available to subscribers of other telecom services as an OTT streamer.

The revamped service, which will also be available to miMovistar users, will include a range of new channels, with the linear Movistar Plus+ channel serving as the central focal point for new fiction, flagship late-night comedy programme La Resistencia, music documentaries and sports, including coverage of Spain’s LaLiga and UEFA Champions League football as well as basketball, tennis and rugby.

The streamer is introducing four new channels: Cine, Series, Música and Documentales.

Movistar Plus+ will also debut a pop-up cannel every month as part of its originals offering. Other channels on the platform include Vamos, Ellas Vamos, a 24-hour channel dedicated to La Resistencia, regional channels and all channels on the country’s digital-terrestrial TV platform.

Cine will include a daily premier and a range of commercial cinema offerings, festival movies and Spanish cinema.

Series will include all Movistar Plus+ originals and a selection of international shows with simultaneous premieres on U.S. screens.

The platform’s sports offering will include matches from  the NBA, the Endesa League with the ACB Cup, the NFL with the Superbowl, the Six Nations tournament, the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, LaLiga Hypermotion (Second Division), the Spanish Super Cup and Wimbledon and the Masters 1000, along with LaLiga and Champions League matches each day.

The service will also entertainment and music programming such as El Día Después, Ilustres Ignorantes and That’s my Jam.

miMovistar customers who already have the MovistarPlus Essential package will see their programming automatically updated for the same price of €11 with access to other premium packages covering football and TV drama – Fütbol Total, Deportes Total and Ficción Total.

Other miMovistar customer will be able to sign up for the service for the same fee of €11 per month.

Non-Movistar customers will now be able to subscribe to Movistar Plus+ as an OTT streamer for a slightly higher monthly fee of €14.
