Tele Columbus gears up for Gigabit in Wittenberge
German cable operator Tele Columbus, which operates under the PŸUR brand, is gearing up to launch Gigabit internet after upgrading local networks in the region around Wittenberge in Brandenburg in eastern Germany.
Tele Columbus said it would be able to offer Gigabit internet to close to 7,000 homes in Wittenberge, which has a population of around 17,000.
The upgraded network for the most part comprises fibre connections to apartment blocks’ basements.
Tele Columbus is continuing to upgrade and extend its networks across eastern Germany.
It recently struck a deal to extend its fibre footprint in Berlin through a new agreement with housing association the Berliner Bau- und Wohnungsgenossenschaft von 1892 eG.
The deal means that more than 6,500 households will be connected to fibre by 2029.
Also last month, the operator began work on delivering fibre connectivity to homes in Leipzig after striking agreements with housing associations in the eastern German city.
Tele Columbus is to deliver fibre connections to 18,000 homes, with the potential to extend to a further 35,000 homes in the city.
