French production outfit Newen Studios is to launch a new animation channel on YouTube.

Blue Spirit, Newen Studios’ production and animation studio, and Newen Digital, the group’s digital development and distribution arm, are working together to launch a dedicated channel for its Grabouillon kids series on YouTube. The new channel will be launched on Tuesday June 12, to tie in with the Annecy 2023 festival.

Each week, the channel will broadcast two episodes and one compilation video of the popular kids animated series, allowing viewers to watch full-length episodes, bonus features and themed episodes centred around the adventures of Grabouillon, a clumsy dog, and Petunia, the well-behaved little girl he drags along on his adventures.

The five-season 3D series is produced by Blue Spirit Productions and distributed by Newen Connect.

The launch comes on the back of the launch of Newen Digital in April of this year. The new division dedicated to digital production and distribution has a remit ranging from social platforms to the AVOD and FAST markets. To date, Newen Digital has generated over 10 million subscribers and 80 million viewing hours on YouTube per year, with a dozen IP-specific channels such as L’Effet Papillon, Faites Entrer l’Accusé and Plus Belle La Vie.

Olivier Lelardoux, CEO of Blue Spirit said: “This collaboration between Blue Spirit and Newen Digital for the launch of Grabouillon on YouTube marks an important first step in our strategic partnership. It paves the way for Blue Spirit to expand its presence online and engage with audiences in the ever-evolving digital landscape.”

Sylvie Mahé, deputy general manager Blue Spirit Productions, said: “We are thrilled about this collaboration with Newen Digital on Grabouillon, an iconic series from the early days of Blue Spirit Productions. Thanks to the fantastic exposure on YouTube that the Newen Digital teams will generate, Grabouillon will regain its youth.”
