VodafoneZiggo completes ‘world first’ DOCSIS 4.0 test
VodafoneZiggo has staked its claim to be the first operator worldwide to conduct a test of DOCSIS 4.0 on its live network.
The DOCSIS 4.0 test took place at the VodafoneZiggo TEC Campus in Amsterdam.
The company said that while the DOCSIS 3.1 standard it has been rolling out step-by-step since 2019 is currently sufficient to meet customers’ needs, with the ability to deliver 1Gbps downstream, DOCSIS 4.0 can deliver even higher speeds and greater network reliability 9in the future.
The company has been able to deliver 1GCbps downstream via DOCSIS 3.1 since the end of last year.
We are consistently investing in our networks to continue to provide the best customer experience on both the mobile and fixed networks. VodafoneZiggo’s fiber optic cable network is future-proof in any case,” said Eben Albertyn, executive director of technology.
“Customers want more and more reliable internet, they want to be connected to multiple devices at the same time at home and on the road. The capacity of the network is so great that it is almost unbelievable what you can do with it. Think, for example, of streaming video and gaming at home with several people at the same time, or being able to collaborate digitally in a large hospital with multiple departments.”
Leo-Geert van den Berg, director of fixed networks at VodafoneZiggo, said: “By using Docsis 4.0 in the network, we will provide even greater service reliability and capacity, making even more bandwidth available for all Internet and entertainment services on the network. Without nuisance since there is no need to dig in the street.”
