Hulu expands its live offering by adding Hallmark, Weather and Vevo
Disney’s US-based streaming service Hulu has added 14 new channels to its Hulu+ Live TV line up. High profile channels to join the platform include The Hallmark Channel and The Weather Channel, while there are also 6 new services from Vevo.
All told, the Hulu+ Live TV tier now offers subscribers a total of 85 channels in addition to on-demand content and access to streaming services Disney+ and ESPN+. It currently has 4.4 million subscribers, up 10% year on year. Overall, Hulu currently contributes around 47 million subs to Disney’s overall DTC segment.
Reagan Feeney, SVP, live TV content programming and partnerships for Hulu, said: “We have been listening to our subscribers and are thrilled to bring some of their most requested channels to our service. With these additions, Hulu + Live TV continues to be one of the most valuable live TV streaming destinations on the market.”
Hulu’s continued expansion into live TV comes at an interesting juncture in the channel business. While the overall market continues to shift incrementally towards on-demand viewing, audiences can now access portfolios of channels either from traditional cable and satellite players, SVOD platforms or AVOD platforms such as Pluto.
