Denmark’s Nuuday sees TV base decline
Danish service provider Nuuday, formerly part of TDC Group, which operates multiplay services under the YouSee brand, saw its TV customer base decline by 13,000 in Q3.
The group, which also saw its fixed phone base fall by 17,000 and fixed broadband decline by 4.000, said that the falls in TV and phone customers reflected “The continued structural changes in demand for landline telephony and traditional TV packages” in the country.
On the upside, the group added 14,000 mobile customers in the quarter.
While fixed broadband numbers overall were down, high-speed fibre and HFC broadband subscribers increased by 3%, reflecting continued expansion on regional networks.
In September, YouSee launched its new entertainment product YouSee Play, a TV and streaming offer that it said matches Danish consumers’ changing TV habits.
Denmark’s largest antenna association – Antenneforeningen Aarhus – meanwhile chose YouSee as a new partner for its own service provider Vios after terminating a contract with Norlys-owned cable operator Stofa.
Service revenue increased slightly compared to the second quarter and landed at DKK3.325 billion. Compared to the same period the previous year, however, service revenue fell by 0.4%.
EBITDA increased for the third quarter in a row, but fell by 12.1% excluding transformation costs compared to the same period the previous year.
“Our results in the third quarter show that we are delivering on our mission to stabilize the customer base, especially in strategically important areas, while improving the quality of our products and customer experiences. At the same time, we are accelerating the transformation of our underlying business. Our innovative product development is in the process of materializing. I am encouraged by the first customer reactions to YouSee Play, which shows that YouSee will also have a place in the future as the preferred supplier of entertainment products for Danish consumers,” said CEO Jon James.
“We continue to execute on our strategy to become Denmark’s most innovative and successful digital service provider that delivers the best customer experiences.”
