Roku launches range of smart home products
Streaming TV device specialist Roku has teamed up with US retail chain Walmart to launch Roku’s new range of smart home product, including security cameras, video doorbells, lighting, plugs, and other devices.
Roku’s smart home product line will be, available exclusively in nearly 3,500 Walmart stores from October 17 in the US.
The integration of the products into the Roku TV Operating System will allow users to see who is at their door via their Roku video doorbell while streaming video on the TV.
Users will also be able to view live streams from their Roku cameras and use a Roku voice remote to bring up video feeds. Roku said that the Smart Home range will be compatible with third party voice integrations, as well as Roku Voice.
“As the number one selling smart TV OS in the US, the Roku platform is used by tens of millions of households, and now we’re extending our ecosystem to include devices and services to power the modern smart home. Branching further into the smart home category is a natural extension of our business, and we are proud to partner with Walmart to make the experience simple and affordable,” said Mustafa Ozgen, president, devices, Roku. Developed in partnership with Wyze Labs, the Roku smart devices lineup offers two-factor authentication (2FA), user data encryption and secure boot. The devices are certified by ioXt Alliance, the global standard for IoT security.
While the products are produced by Wyze, Roku is differentiating the line-up through integration with its TV OS, as well as through the subscription offering and the availability of the accompanying mobile app.
The range of products includes a floodlight camera, indoor and outdoor cameras, including a 360° variant, a video doorbell and chime, smart bulbs and light strips and indoor and outdoor smart plugs.
The company is offering a Roku Smart Home mobile app for iOS and Android, as well as a camera subscription plan that includes cloud video recording history, smart alerts, package delivery notifications, and more.
Products will only be available in the US in Walmart stores initially, although a few select product s are available online at Walmart.com and Roku.com.
