Plex hires Facebook alum as head of growth
Streaming media platform Plex has announced the hire of former Facebook director Manish Gupta as its new VP of growth.
Gupta, a Fortune 50 growth expert, will be tasked with driving user growth and retention at Plex. The exec joins from Facebook/Meta, and has previously served at Twitter, Google, eBay and Paypal.
Plex reaches users in 193 countries and is undergoing a period of rapid expansion following the raise of US$50 million in growth equity in April 2021.The platform, originally built as a media library, now provides access to over 200 live TV channels, more than 50,000 free on-demand movies and TV episodes and access to OTA broadcast channels and DVR.
Gupta said: “Plex has built a tremendously valuable platform that offers more types of media in one place than any other streaming service out there. Connecting and engaging users with our diverse content offerings is inspiring to me, and I’m ready to hit the ground running.”
Alongside the hire of Gupta, Plex has announced the appointment of three new board members. These include Interlock Partners’ Car Sparks, experienced board member Kelly Battles, and entrepreneur Rick Gibbs.
Keith Valory, CEO of Plex, said: “Manish and our new board members are strong additions to the Plex family as we are driving toward our mission of being a one-stop-shop for streaming media, and scaling the company during a period of rapid growth. Delivering an amazing user experience has always been our number one priority, and Manish’s background in customer insights and growth marketing is exactly what we need to ensure we are not only appealing to new users, but bringing them back time and time again.”
