Canal+ picks iWedia for STB system integration
Software solution provider iWedia has announced a new set-top box (STB) supplier partnership with Canal+ International.
Canal+ International operates satellite, DTT and OTT TV services for more than 40 countries in Africa, Poland, Vietnam, Myanmar, and French Overseas. Its subsidiary M7 Group also provides services across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary.
iWedia said that it emerged as a partner for the operator during a period of global expansion where it required STB integration partners who would provide individual adaptations for issues of language, security, connectivity and other elements.
A case given is of target territories that do not have stable internet connectivity, which rules out Canal+’s existing ‘zapper solution’ for its Linux-based STB system to maintain a consistent service. iWedia said that it would provide PVR solutions and enable connected services via 3G dongles.
Jerome Trift, Canal+ International CTO, said: “It was clear that this project, while necessary, would add significant complexity to our existing software solution, and we needed a reliable partner to help us. With iWedia’s extensive software integration experience in the market, we were confident that they could work with us to solve any challenges and ensure a smooth launch of our expanded service, as well as provide continued software maintenance across both STBs in the years ahead.”
Hans-Jürgen Desor, CEO, iWedia, said, “iWedia’s work on this project has certainly been complex, not least due to the diverse needs of many territories to consider, but we are extremely proud of the work we have done and continue to do to enable Canal+ International to support its viewers around the world. Canal+ International invests heavily in its diverse territories, with local content that supports local cultures and affordable bouquets of services available in financially disadvantaged regions. Its customers will continue to receive a high quality and reliable service experience, whichever STB they choose.”
