Former Disney CEO said to be eyeing takeover of NBA team
Bob Iger, the former Disney CEO, is reportedly eyeing a takeover of NBA team Phoenix Suns.
According to Puck News, Iger – who currently serves as Disney’s chair – is interested in buying an NBA team with the Suns as his preference should it become available.
The team’s majority owner Robert Sarver is currently under investigation over allegations of systemic racism and misogyny within the franchise. Sarver himself has been accused of using racially insensitive language, misogynistic conduct and creating a toxic work environment.
The investigation could force the sale of the US$1.8 billion franchise, with Iger reportedly having told “at least a couple friends” that he would launch a bid for the team. Iger is said to be close with NBA commissioner Adam Silver, and has a lifetime passion for sports.
Iger was originally set to exit Disney at the end of the year, but he has extended his contract by one month to the end of January.
