Apple TV major update to launch next week
tvOS 15 will launch on September 20, Apple has confirmed.
The major Apple TV update will bring significant new features to the streaming box, focused on discovery.
The first, dubbed For All of You, presents a new row within the Apple TV app that suggests titles for all members of the household to stream together, utilising viewing data from multiple users. The second meanwhile presents titles shared with the user from Messages as a standalone row as part of further integration with other Apple devices.
Other features coming to Apple TV focus on functionality, such as an on-screen prompt to connect AirPods headphones, HomePod Mini pairing and updates to HomeKit for smart home accessibility.
The update will be supported on the Apple TV HD, and the Apple TV 4K devices released in both 2017 and 2021.
One key feature missing at the launch of tvOS 15 – and iOS 15 for that matter – is SharePlay. SharePlay, initially announced earlier this year, will allow FaceTime users to stream titles together in sync across their Apple devices. The feature however was delayed in August, and will arrive at a later date.
