Sky Deutschland agrees pact with Deutsche Telekom
Sky Deutschland has struck a new long-term partnership agreement with Deutsche Telekom that will make the streaming service Sky Ticket available on Telekom’s Magenta TV service, and Telekom’s MagentaSport app available on Sky Q.
The new deal means that Telekom will be able to market and bill for the Sky Ticket offering to Magenta TV customers for the first time.
The move will make Sky Originals and series from HBO and Showtime available to Telekom subscribers via the Sky Ticket service. The offering also includes access to Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga football, along with the English Premier League, DFB Cup and Formula 1.
Initially, the Sky Ticket app will be available on the MagentaTV streaming stick this year. Sky Ticket will be available via Telekom’s set-top boxes at a later date.. In the future, MagentaTV customers will be able to sign up for the streaming offering directly via MagentaTV and watch its content in one place and on one bill.
In addition, Telekom’s MagentaSport app will be available on Sky Q in the future.
MagentaSport, Telekom’s live sports offering, covers up to 1,700 exclusive live events per year, including all games in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the 3.Bundesliga and the Women’s Bundesliga.
Mark Winterbottom, managing director distribution UK and Europe at Sky, said: “Thanks to the expanded cooperation with Deutsche Telekom, we are now making the great streaming offer from Sky Ticket with top series, the latest blockbusters and the best live sports available to all MagentaTV customers. At the same time, by integrating the MagentaSport app on Sky Q, we are once again strengthening Sky Q’s position as an innovative all-in-one platform. Sky Q customers can enjoy their Sky channels and MagentaSport content even more conveniently at the push of a button with just one remote control.”
Michael Schuld, head of TV at Telekom, said: “We have a long and successful partnership with Sky. We are pleased that we are continuing and intensifying our cooperation. With the future integration of Sky Ticket on MagentaTV, we are continuing our strategy of bundling all relevant content and services. We want more for our customers: more television, more streaming services and partners, more series and films.”
