Geographic and content expansion for LG Channels
LG is expanding its free streaming service to an additional 11 countries.
LG Channels is to expand its global availability from 14 to 25 countries, the smart TV maker said. This expansion will triple the service’s European coverage by the end of the year, though the company did not announce the specific new countries.
LG also said that LG Channels will also be coming to more than 30 brands of smart TVs powered by LG’s own webOS TV platform, including Motorola, JVC, Polaroid and MASTER-G.
In addition to these expansions to new territories, LG Channels’ roster of content will increase from 1,600 to 1,900. This includes more than 100 Pluto TV channels that will be coming to LG Channels later this year in select countries in Europe and Latin America.
Earlier this year, LG announced a major UI overhaul to its webOS smart TV operating system. That was followed by a move from the company to licence webOS to smart TV makers.
LG will hope that its continued investment in webOS and LG Channels will help to close the gap between it and Samsung as the two largest CTV OS makers.
