Roku prepares to launch Quibi shows from mid-May
AVOD operator and device manufacturer Roku will roll out its recently acquired programming from now-defunct Quibi from 20 May.
The launch line-up includes 30 titles, ranging from scripted IP such as Most Dangerous Game, Die Hart, #FreeRayshawn and Reno 911!, to documentaries including Blackballed, as well as alternative and reality programming such as Punk’d and Chrissy’s Court.
The shows, which were acquired by the device manufacturer and AVOD streamer earlier this year, have been labelled Roku Originals and will be available exclusively on its ad-supported network, The Roku Channel.
“The launch of Roku Originals will bring incredible, premium entertainment that has breadth, depth and diversity to the millions of streamers who regularly visit The Roku Channel and to many new viewers who may not even have a Roku device – and it’s all available for free,” said Sweta Patel, VP of engagement growth marketing at Roku.
The launch marks the latest salvo in the battle to entice AVOD viewers worldwide. Last week, Roku revealed it had increased its monthly active users by 35% in the first quarter of 2021, to reach a total of 53.6 million.
