Commscope signs on as latest HEVC patent licensee with Velos Media

Commscope has become the latest company to licence Velos Media’s HEVC patent.

The partnership sees Commscope have access to the substantial portfolio of HEVC patents from six leading tech companies.

The Velos Media platform offers a single license to a substantial and strong portfolio of HEVC standard essential patents for devices such as televisions, digital video cameras and set-top boxes. The Velos Media platform includes patents from innovators including BlackBerry, Ericsson, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Sharp and Sony. These companies are responsible for many of the most significant contributions to the HEVC standard, including adopted contributions to the Main and Extension profiles of the HEVC standard.

Commscope becomes one of more than 40 licensees of the platform, with Velos Media licensees accounting for “a substantial portion of global HEVC capable set-top box sales and HEVC capable TV sales.”
