The Explorers and Ateme launch VVC-based pop-up channel
The Explorers, a collaborative global media platform focusing on the natural world and video technology outfit Ateme have launched a new OTT live channel using the VVC next-generation compression codec.
The channel will be hosted from now until December 11 on the Akamai CDN.
The OTT channel, launched with Ateme for a one-month month period, is designed to highlight the beauty of the planet by capturing content in HDR up to 8K.
VVC, published as ITU H.266 /ISO/IEC 23090-3, is a new video standard that is said to reduce by half the bitrate at the same video quality.
“Ateme is the first company to distribute VVC live in UHD and CMAF low latency. We are extremely pleased to partner with The Explorers on this project which highlights our cutting-edge technology and showcases the beauty of our planet. “said Mickael Raulet, VP Innovation Ateme.
“By promoting VVC, Ateme contributes to preserving our environment. Better video quality with lower bitrate helps to reduce carbon footprint of the internet on a large scale. The OTT channel launched will allow viewers to see the world as they’ve never seen it before and realize how beautiful and fragile it is.” Said Olivier Chiabodo, CEO The Explorers.
