Fortnite set to run free Disney+ promotion
An upcoming update for the videogame Fortnite will reportedly include a promotion with Disney+.
According to a number of dataminers who have gone through the 14.50 patch game files, the Epic Games-developed live-service title appears to be gearing up for a promotion with the Disney streamer to give players free access to the streamer for a limited time when purchasing Fortnite’s in-game currency.
Dataminers have found a string in the game files reading: “Power up with Disney Plus! From now through December 31, 2020, purchase V-Bucks or make any real money purchase in the Item Shop, and get up to two months of Disney+ on us.”
V-Bucks are Fortnite’s in-game currency which allows players to buy new skins for their avatars along with access to the game’s ‘battle pass’ which opens up additional content and challenges over a 10 week period.
This would not be the first time that Disney has had a cross-promotion with Fortnite, having used the title as a platform to promote Star Wars and Avenger’s Endgame via special skins and new game modes. Fortnite’s latest season is thematically based around the Marvel comic books.
Full details on the promo are yet to be revealed such as a minimum spend in Fortnite, or whether the offer is exclusive to new Disney+ subscribers. This will mark the latest promotion from Disney which has aggressively grown Disney+ to 60 million subscribers globally as of August.
