Sandbox takes majority stake in Hopster in multi-million pound funding round
Education publishing outfit Sandbox & Co has taken a majority stake in kids SVOD service Hopster as part of a multi-million pound investment round that will also see existing Hopster investor Venture Founders put additional cash into the business.
Bhav Singh, founder and CEO of Sandbox, will take on the role of Hopster chairman.
Sandbox, which chorals or invests in 10 kids-focused brands, was already an investor in Hopster. Sandbox portfolio companies include CoolMathGames, Poptropica,Tinybop, CuriousWorld, Family Education, TeacherVision, Super Awesome, Fact Monster, InfoPlease and Funbrain.
Hopster, a preschool educational and entertainment digital platform that provides kids TV shows, music, games and books, says it will use the new investment to realise ambitious plans to accelerate its strategic partnerships with global distribution companies in both the telco. and pay TV spaces as well as investing in its future acquisitions and original content. The funding will also go towards updating its product development to enrich its customer experience whilst supporting its UK operations to realise further growth
This year has seen Hopster strike distribution partnerships with Amazon France, Oman Ooredoo, Sky New Zealand, Vodacom South Africa and Dish Network and Sling in the US.
This year has also seen Hopster launch two original productions, Saturday Club, a short animated empathy-focused series, and Rainbow Stories an LGBT-themed series launched for Pride month.
