UPC Switzerland boosts MySports with TeleTicino deal
Liberty Global-owned UPC Switzerland’s sports service MySports has extended its cooperation agreement with regional TV channel TeleTicino for another year, giving the service continued live access six qualifying round matches between top ice-hockey teams HC Lugano and HC Ambri-Piotta in the 2019-20 season.
“We are proud of the fact that the positive cooperation between MySports and TeleTicino is going to continue next season. Thanks to our team in Melide and the Corriere del Ticino Group, the derbies between Lugano and Ambrì Piotta will in the future continue to be available to all Ticino households. To mark the occasion of the 3-year anniversary of our cooperation with MySports, we are bound to come up with one or two surprises for our customers,” said Alessandro Colombi, general manager of the Corriere del Ticino Group and MediaTI.
Matthias Krieb, VP of MySports at UPC, said: “Thanks to this cooperation, we have succeeded in making the derbies and the images produced by MySports accessible to all inhabitants of the region. At the same time viewers in the other parts of Switzerland also benefit from the editorial services provided by TeleTicino. You can see it as a win-win situation which has come out of this cooperation, both for the two contractual parties, as well as for Swiss ice hockey.”
Ice hockey rights are the lynchpin of UPC Switzerland’s MySports offering, which the company launched a couple of years ago as part of a move to turn around its fortunes in the country.
Separately, UPC Switzerland earlier this week announced that it had now distributed over 100,000 advanced set-top boxes following its launch of the advanced product six months ago.
