PCCW launches Viu in South Africa

PCCW has launched Viu in South Africa, marking the over-the-top service’s seventeenth country launch.

Viu South Africa is available as a freemium service and offers local and regional content from partners Vodacom, SABC and Etv, alongside Viu originals.

“We are excited to be bringing a truly ‘freemium’ video streaming service anchored on local content to South Africa,” said Viu South Africa country manager, Ryan Solovei, in a statement.

“Through our partnerships with Etv, SABC, and Vodacom, we have built an ecosystem that makes it easier for audiences to engage with our platform. The app is available in the IOS app store, Google Play and in the Huawei app gallery.”

Across Asia and the Middle East, Viu claimed 30.7 million monthly active users as of the end of December and 37.5 billion video minutes in 2018, representing year-on-year growth of 89% and 117% respectively.

Viu is also available in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Mayanmar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.
