VEON appoints chief strategy officer
Telecoms and internet services business, VEON, has appointed Alex Kazbegi as chief strategy officer, effective February 18, 2019.
Kazbegi was most recently managing director and head of EMEA telecom, transportation, infrastructure and healthcare research at Renaissance Capital. He has more than 20 years of investment banking experience in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Kazbegi is tasked with identifying growth and business development opportunities and will join VEON’s group executive committee, reporting to chairman and CEO, Ursula Burns.
“Alex’s appointment is a further sign of the momentum that is building at VEON, as we seek to strengthen our core business and grow new revenue streams while remaining focused on ethics and compliance,” said Burns.
“His experience covering telecoms in Russia and other emerging markets will help the group executive committee lead VEON towards more success and increased shareholder value.”
Russian service provider VimpelCom rebranded to VEON in 2017 and at the same time moved its headquarters to Amsterdam.
VEON claims more than 210 million customers across Europe, Asia and Africa. It operates the Beeline, Jazz, Djezzy, Kyivstar and Banglalink brands and is present in Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Algeria, Ukraine, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
