Parrot unveils pattern of demand for digital originals in Switzerland
Netflix’s Star Trek: Discovery was the most ‘in-demand’ digital original series in Switzerland in the first quarter, beating competition including Netflix’s German-language drama Dark, according to a study by Parrot Analytics.
Parrot Analytics analyses the demand for recent popular digital titles across international markets, based on the application of artificial intelligence to expressions of demand across social media, fan sites, peer-to-peer protocols and file-sharing platforms.
According to Parrot’s study of demand in Switzerland for digital originals over the first quarter, part of the group’s Global TV Demand Q1 2018 report, Star Trek: Discovery’s sustained popularity between January and March was driven by growing interest in the second half of the series.
Dark, Netflix’s German-language original, attracted more interest than Star Trek: Discovery at the beginning of the quarter, but tailed of thereafter.
Three other major releases during the quarter – Altered Carbon, Jessica Jones and Stargate Origins – sustained their initial strong demand over several weeks.
In a Netflix-dominated list, Star Trek: Discovery topped the list on in-demand digital originals for the quarter, with an average of 720,239 demand expressions, followed by Stranger Things and Black Mirror. Amazon’s The Grand Tour took fourth place with an average of 281,572 demand expressions, considerably below the numbers for the top three.
Dark took number the seven slot for the quarter with an average of 210,785 demand expressions.
