4KUniverse to launch in Asia Pacific
New 4K UHD TV channel 4KUniverse is to launch in the Asia Pacific market on the AsiaSat satellite platform, bringing a range of movies, TV shows, documentaries and live sports in 4K to Asian viewers.
The channel will make content available on AsiaSat’s own UHD channel, 4K-Sat on AsiaSat 4 from mid-May, before launching a full-time channel in the fourth quarter.
Content available on AsiaSat will include documentary Seattle: The Emerald City, movie The Toy Soldiers and TV series Model Turned Superstar.
“Having AsiaSat as our strategic partner, we are able to demonstrate our high quality, compelling UHD content to the largest possible audience in Asia through AsiaSat’s unique satellite-delivered UHD platform on AsiaSat 4. While we are making our content available to all cable, DTH and IPTV operators in this region, we look forward to the launch of our full 24/7 UHD channel in Asia in Q4 2016,”said Matthew Mancinelli, founder and CEO of 4KUniverse and Mance Media, the 4K Ultra HD specialist distributor behind the channel.
The Los Angeles-based outfit initially debuted 4KUniverse at MIPTV as a subscription online service, available for US$5.99 a month via YouTube and Vimeo.
“We are very pleased to welcome 4KUniverse on board our UHD neighbourhood on AsiaSat 4. The immersive viewing experience of unique native UHD content enabled by satellite delivery will impress them,” said Sabrina Cubbon, vice-president of marketing and global accounts, AsiaSat.
