Latvia’s LMT planning 4G TV offering
Latvian mobile network operator Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) is planning to launch an OTT TV service to complement its 4G mobile offering in the second half of this year.
LMT president Juris Binde told local press that the service, called LMRT Mājas Viedtelevizija (LMT Home TV) would enable users to create personalised selections of applications and TV channels.
LMT is developing the service in partnership with Google
The service will be available to the operator’s 4G subscribers in the second half of the year, pending a successful outcome to trials ahead of the full launch, LMT vice-president for marketing and business development Ingmars Pukis told press.
LMT said the service would provide a mix of local and international TV channels, along with a range of Google Play apps. LMT will stream live broadcasts over its mobile network to home internet users. The trial will offer the service to a limited number of LMT customers across the country in areas with adequate 4G network availability.
