UPC Austria launches Wi-Free nationally
Liberty Global-owned cable operator UPC Austria has completed the rollout of its national ‘Wi-Free’ Wi-Fi network.
According to the operator, 475,000 UPC internet subscribers have joined the network and can now surf the web for free outside their homes using it. Registered customers also have access to about six million hotspots across Europe.
The national launch follows a trial among 15,000 customers in Graz, which saw subscribers home-spots partitioned and used as the basis for an out-of-home Wi-Fi network.
UPC is offering downstream bandwidth of up to 10Mbps and upstream capacity of up to 2Mbps.
