MStar adopts Dolby Vision for 4K UHD TV SoCs

Chipset provider MStar has teamed up with Dolby to deliver Dolby Vision-based 4K Ultra HD system-on-a-chip solutions for HDR TVs next year.

Dolby has been an early leader in HDR, though its technology is one of a number of HDR systems that are competing for attention – others include proposals from Japan’s NHK, the UK’s BBC and Philips.

High-end display manufacturer Vizio separately demonstrated a Dolby Vision-based HDR reference series at the CEDIA exhibition in Dallas this week.

With the integration of Dolby Vision VS10 in MStar’s 4K Ultra HD SoCs, we will support the TV industry in delivering spectacular HDR images with greater detail, brighter highlights, deeper darks, and a fuller palette of colors than was possible on television screens in the past.
