Internet of Things devices to triple by 2020

Internet of Things connected devices will triple to over 38 billion units by 2020, according to data from Juniper Research.

According to the research outfit, the number of connected devices will increase by 285% over the next five years up from 13.4 billion today.

According to Juniper Research, the industrial and public services sector, including retail, agriculture, smart buildings and smart grid applications, will account for the bulk of devices, rather than smart home applications, for which the business case has yet to be proven.

While the consumer sector offers the prospect of high ARPU, the industrial sector offers high return on investment through creating more efficient business processes.
