Sky Deutschland launches Roku-powered streaming box
Sky Deutschland has launched a Roku-powered streaming media box, designed to let viewers access Sky Online and Snap on their TVs.
The Sky Online TV Box is available now for a full price of €69.90 or for an introductory price of €49.90 when ordered with the Sky Online or Snap service.
The box was developed as part of a strategic partnership with US streaming media firm Roku, which Sky in the UK has invested US$12.9 million (€10.5 million) in to date.
As well as Sky Online and Snap, viewers will be able to use Sky Deutschland’s online TV box to access content from the likes of Vimeo, TuneIn Radio and the Wall Street Journal Live.
“The introduction of the Sky Online TV Box adds a flexible, user-friendly and affordable option to stream directly on TV screens the best selection of premium content from Sky Online and Snap. Working closely with Roku, a leader in the streaming TV category, has given us access to best-in-class user experience,” said Alice Mascia, vice-president, strategy at Sky Deutschland.
In the UK, Sky launched a similar Roku-powered internet-connected set-top box in July 2013, so that customers of is Now TV service to access the OTT offering from their TVs, though this was priced at just £9.99 (€11.57).
