Movistar TV launches virtual reality motorcycling app

Movistar_NdP_Piloto_360_0Telefónica’s Movistar TV platform has launched a new app providing a ‘mobile virtual reality’ experience of MotoGP motorcycling.

The Piloto 360 app is designed to allow viewers to experience what it is like to be a rider in the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team, according to the operator.

The app will enable users to experience life with the Movistar team, with access to the pit and technical team, and to ‘ride’ a Yamaha YZR M1 bike together with rider Jorge Lorenzo.

One version of the app follows movement of the mobile phone in all directions, allowing the user to view the action from different angles, for example looking back from the ride. A second version makes use of Oculus Rift virtual reality glasses to deliver a more immersive experience. The headset was distributed at the Valencia Grand Prix this weekend.

Movistar has created a dedicated site for the app, piloto360.es, and the app is available from the Android and iOS stores.
