Ukraine Today from 1+1 launches

Ukrainian commercial broadcaster 1+1 has launched its planned international news channel Ukraine Today.

The English-language channel is currently broadcast via the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite position at 13° East, and is also available on the web. 1+1 plans to launch versions in Russian and German soon.

The new channel will focus on Ukraine and neighbouring eastern European counties and is designed in part to counter the influence of Russian international channel Russia Today.

1+1 has named Peter Dickinson, former general producer of Ukraine-based international news channel Jewish News One, as Ukraine Today’s channel editor, while Tatiana Pushnova has been named as executive producer.
