Tele Columbus launches wireless cable box

German cable operator Tele Columbus has launched a wireless cable box, incorporating cable modem, wireless router, media server and fixed-line telephony in a single box.

According to Tele Columbus, the new box will lay the groundwork for a future WLAN offering, providing public hotspots based on partitioning individual users’s WiFi clouds.

The box comes with support for the 802.11ac standard and support for both 2.4GGz and 5GHz spectrum ranges. The box will be available to subscribers for €2 a month with a miminum 12-month contract.
