BT Sport reveals numbers, renews free offering
BT has confirmed that BT Sport will be free to subscribers for a second season as it revealed it now has five million customers for its service.
BT said it had decided to continue offering BT Sport for free to new and re-contracting BT Broadband customers.
BT Sport now has five million customers including three million who take the service direct from BT via satellite, BT TV or the BT Sport App.
BT TV now has one million customers, with the majority of homes taking the BT Sport service.
“Fans have been the winners with BT Sport. Millions of homes have enjoyed the very best sporting action for free. We said we would shake up the market and we have done just that,” said John Petter, BT Consumer chief executive.
“The great news for fans is that BT Sport will remain free with BT Broadband for another season, during which we will broadcast live action from the new European rugby tournaments. There has never been a better time to switch to BT Broadband so I would encourage sports fans to sign up.”
