Global IPTV subscribers reach 92.7 million
Global IPTV subscriber numbers reached 92.7 million at the end of 2013, a year-on-year increase of 23.7%, according to a new report by the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC).
The ‘Worldwide IPTV Subscriber Market, 1Q 2014’ study predicts further growth in this space, tipping the IPTV subscriber market to reach 100 million subscribers by the end of the first half of 2014.
This is then set to climb to 128 million subscribers by the end of 2014, according to MIC.
Currently, the report claims that Western Europe is the second largest IPTV subscriber market with a subscriber base of 27.3 million in the end of 2013. This is behind only Asia Pacific, which accounts for almost half of the total 2013 IPTV figure with 45.6 million subscribers.
As of the end of 2013, the Latin American IPTV subscriber base stood at 1.2 million, according to MIC. However, it claims that the rapid deployment of domestic fibre networks in LatAm and Southeast Asia will spur further IPTV subscriptions in these regions.
