Virgin Media in small cell backhaul trial with Sub10 Systems

Virgin Media Business has completed a live backhaul small cell trial with Sub10 Systems, a specialist in the development of millimetre wave wireless links operating at the 60, 70 and 80GHz frequency bands.

The trial was designed to provide a reliable high-speed connection using wireless backhaul at 60GHz and was conducted in Leeds in the UK over a month.

“To test the full potential of the 60GHz frequency, we deliberately set up the trial in an environment that was highly populated and had a high density of infrastructure, adding important variables to our test,” said Virgin Media Business senior business development manager, Bruce Girdlestone.

“We used Sub10’s Liberator V-320 because of its bandwidth capabilities, its compact size and its flexibility, which makes it suitable for backhaul communications.”
