UPC Ireland trials Horizon mobile app

Irish pay TV operator UPC has started trialling a new service, called Horizon Phone App, which will let users make calls over WiFi.

The service, which is being trialled with 1,000 customers ahead of a full rollout in spring, will let UPC customers avoid roaming costs and use their smartphone to make calls as part of their existing UPC Home Phone call pack.

“Using a smartphone over a WiFi connection, family members can use the app to call friends for the same rates as their UPC Home Phone,” the firm said.

The free app will be available for Android and Apple iOS devices.
