Volia launches multiscreen service

Ukrainian cable operator Volia has launched a multiscreen service, Volia Smart Touch, making linear TV and video-on-demand movies available on iOS and Android devices.

Users can switch back to viewing on their main TV screens and use their mobile devices to control their viewing experience.

Volia subscribers can download the Smart Touch app from the Google Play and Apple stores.

Volia said that sales of tablets had doubled in the first half of 2013 compared with the same period the prior year, with 448,000 units sold in Ukraine in the six months to June compared with 362,000 during the whole of 2012.

The operator is making the service available free of charge initially as a promotional offer, after which it will be available for UAH10 (€1) a month.
