Netflix to debut Bloomberg Businessweek Films’ first documentary
Bloomberg Businessweek Films’ debut documentary, Hank: Five Years From the Brink, will premiere on Netflix next week.
The doc, which comes from Emmy- and Academy-nominated doc maker Joe Berkinger, features Hank Paulson, the former CEO Goldman Sachs and Secretary to the Treasury of the US who was tasked with selling the idea of bailing out the banks in 2008 at the onset of the global financial crisis.
In total, Paulson got more than US$1 trillion signed off but the film will reveal why he claims another financial crisis is inevitable.
The doc will launch on Netflix in the US, Canada, UK and Ireland on September 16, and in the remaining Netflix territories on November 1 following the VOD giant’s acquisition. The film is distributed by Virgil Film and Entertainment.
Bloomberg Businessweek Film is a new production initiative from the US-based business news outlet Bloomberg that will seek to create complex and emotionally-charged business stories for the screen.
“We’re honored to have Hank seen on such an innovative platform as Netflix, and incredibly fortunate to have been able to partner with the great Joe Berlinger on this documentary,” said Bloomberg Businessweek editor and producer, Josh Tyrangiel, who is leading the Bloomberg Businessweek Films initiative.
“As a documentary filmmaker for over 20 years, it’s really exciting to find novel ways to reach audiences with a new content creator like Bloomberg Businessweek Films, through an expanding powerhouse like Netflix, added Berlinger.
