Sky Deutschland sees massive growth for premium services
Sky Deutschland expects to achieve positive full-year EBITDA for this year and strong growth thereafter, following a 2012 in which it increased its premium HD customer base by over half and more than doubled its Sky Plus DVR base.
Sky HD customers increased by 56% in 2012 to reach 1.514 million, while the Sky Plus DVR base grew by 126% to reach 929,000. Multiroom customers increased by 98% to 346,000.
Sky Go, the operator’s TV Everywhere service, saw use increase by 355% to 33.3 million logins. Sky last week introduced its Sky Guide on the service, enabling customer to programme their Sky Plus DVR from the Sky Go app on their iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, as well as via the web.
Sky had a total customer base of 3.363 million at the end of the year, up 12%.
The operator posted revenues of €1.333 billion, up 17%, and negative EBITDA of €51.1 million, an improvement of €104.4 million year-on-year.
“In 2012 we have achieved a strong operating profit, which was mainly driven by our customer focus and the ongoing expansion of our programming and product offerings. The excellent response to our innovative services like Sky Go and Sky Anytime reflect our high customer satisfaction and customer retention levels and clearly demonstrate the potential for further growth,” said CEO Brian Sullivan.
