UPC offers unencrypted local channels

Swiss cable operator UPC Cablecom has begun to offer a number of local channels unencrypted in its basic package.

Customers can now receive a total of 55 unencrypted digital channels directly without requiring an additional set-top box. Previously, legal restrictions meant that local channels in specific areas could only be received in the basic analogue package and in encrypted form digitally via a set-top boxes or DigiCard.
