Sky Italia launches hybrid service

Sky Italia will launch an internet-delivered video-on-demand platform next week.

The News Corp-owned DTH operator will use the Ethernet connection on its Sky HD decoders to deliver movies and TV series, with over 1,200 titles on offer from launch.

Sky On Demand will be available from July 2 exclusively to HD customers that have subscribed to services for at least one year. It will be available to all HD customers from November 1. The service will be included in subscriptions with no extra charge required.

Sky said picture quality would be ensured using progressive download technologies.
