Fox buys Viajar in Spain

Fox International Channels has bought Spanish travel channel Viajar. Fox acquired the channel from Spanish media company Prisa and said that, under its ownership, it will retain its current positioning, style and programming grid.

Fox did not disclose the purchase price, but Prisa recorded a €12.3 million one-off item in its third-quarter 2011 results, announced earlier this week, that it said related to the sale of the channel.

The channel launched in 1997 and targets a 35-to-54 year-old demographic with a line-up of docs about travel, travelling and foreign cultures.
The deal takes the total number of channels that Fox owns in Spain to ten. Its other offerings are: Fox, Fox HD, Fox Crime, National Geographic, National Geographic HD, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Wild HD and Baby TV.
