Ukraine’s UBG to launch new DTH service on Astra

Ukraine’s UBG to launch new DTH service on Astra acquired 100% of music broadcaster A-One.

The service, which will be free-to-air, will launch with five channels including A-One, business channel UBC, Ukrainian Fashion and entertainment networks Dobro-TV and Z-TV.

UBG has struck a deal with satellite services operator SES Astra to host the service and it will launch via Astra’s 5° East orbital position.
Artem Tkachev, corporate vice-president, UBG, said: “The agreement with SES Astra is of high strategic importance to us, as it will allow us to enter the Ukrainian media market and to further develop our activities in this sector.”

UBG won broadcasting licences for the three new channels – kids channel Dobro TV, teenage channel Z-TV and Ukrainian Fashion – from the National Council for Television and Radio on Thursday.

Modern Times Group-owned Viasat Ukraine and NTV Plus currently offer DTH pay TV services in Ukraine.
