New sports channels launch in CEE

Ukrainian deputy prime minister and owner of the Donetsk ice hockey team Boris Kolesnikov is behind a new ice hockey channel that has just received a broadcasting licence in the country.

Ukraine’s National Council for Radio and Television issued the licence for the channel, which will simply be called Hockey, at the start of the month. The channel, which will be delivered via the Astra 1G bird, is expected to launch in January.


Separately, Romanian pay TV platform RCS&RDS has rolled out its new sports channel Digi Sport 3. The channel will air various live sports events and launched last Saturday. The existing Digi Sport and Digi Sport Plus channels have also been rebranded Digi Sport 1 and Digi Sport 2.
