Sky launches TV Everywhere service

Sky has rebranded Sky Mobile TV and its online platform Sky Player as Sky Go, giving subscribers the opportunity to watch its channels on computers, mobile phones and tablet devices.

The service will be free for all Sky TV customers when it launches on July 6. It will offer all five Sky Sports channels, ESPN and Sky News on mobile and tablets, with further channels to be added. Over 30 channels will be available on PCs and laptops, including all five Sky Sports channels, Sky Movies, Sky News, Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts, MTV, Disney, G.O.L.D, Nickelodeon, NatGeo, History, Eden and ESPN. Various on-demand titles will also be available.

Sky Go will eventually be supported by public WiFi platform The Cloud, which Sky acquired earlier this year and offers wireless access to over 4,500 locations.

The service will be available from August to non-Sky TV customers, with monthly subscriptions priced between £15 (€17) and £40. Sky is also rebranding the Sky Player service it offers on Xbox and Fetch TV to Sky.

“The explosion of smartphones and tablets demonstrates the increasing consumer demand for accessing entertainment and communicating on the move. We have already responded to this by offering a range of services, including live TV, across many new innovative platforms and devices, like laptops and iPhones,” said Stephen van Rooyen, deputy managing director of Sky’s Customer Group. “Clearly the consumer appetite is there, and it’s growing. In responding to that, and to create even more value, choice and flexibility for our customers, we are now going to offer online and mobile access to Sky content at no extra charge. The future support of a nationwide Wi-Fi network will help us supercharge that experience further still.”
